Information For Directors

Your Stage Time

You will have 30 minutes of stage time to perform your selections and work with the clinicians if you are performing for a rating.  You will have one hour if you are performing for comments only.  Remember that this is your event and it is what you want it to be. You may do the festival style where you play 3 charts and have the clinicians work with your group, or just have the clinicians sit in with the group.  This is entirely up to you.

Also remember that you may play for ratings or comments, and you may change your mind at anytime if need be.
Remember that if your combo signed up for the combo stage for free, you are playing for entertainment.  Your set can be anything you want it to be, but there will be no clinic process.

Please provide two copies of each tune you are performing.  Copies are fine.

All high school, middle school, and collegiate performances are FREE.  Encourage your parents, supporters, friends, fans, etc. to come and support your kids.
Also get out there and support the middle school jazz bands.  These guys are leading the way for middle school jazz education in NC!

Open Blues Jam Session
Don't put your axe away, yet.  There will be a beginning and advanced jam session at noon.

Eat Our Food/Buy Our Stuff
Please tell your students to bring money as well.  Like any festival, this is a fundraiser to run our band program.
We will have concessions available for the entire day, as well as City of the Arts Jazz Festival t-shirts with the logo on the front and your school's name on the back.

Each performance stage will be equipped with chairs & music stands, a drumset , piano (Separk stage - baby grand, Vulcan and Jacksons stage - electric keyboard), guitar amp & bass amp (You'll need to bring your own patch cords).  Power will be run to a power strip in the center of the rhythm section area on each stage.  We will have microphones available for each stage for soloist, vocalist, or MC'ing.
You are welcome to bring your own equipment and use our equipment as backup equipment if needed.
Please let me know ahead of time if you need a vibraphone.
Please contact me if you have any questions.  My cell number is 336-469-5590.  Thanks!
